Ed Sheeran Magazine
The “Q” magazine is a well-known magazine for its
prestigious detail about artists which interests a wide audience. It is clearly
very neatly and professionally presented and therefore is respected in the
magazine industry. Being published monthly, this magazine is relatively rare
compared to some other music magazines which are published more often, and it
is priced at £3.99 RRP.
The publisher of this magazine describes the average
demographic audience of this magazine to be a man in his 20s who thinks “music
is important to him than anything else” and “is at the centre of his social
life”. This tells us that the magazine is, like the majority of other music
magazines, targeted at a younger, more careless and informal demographic. This
demographic is also commonly associated with people who listen to Ed Sheeran,
due to his modern style of writing.
One of the most noticeable things on this front cover would
be the red “Q” in the top left corner, and this stands out due to its vibrant
colour and big font size. The “Q” could be a metaphor for a literal queue,
which may be describing the literal queues at the artist’s concerts which could
emphasise how big and popular the magazine is as it is dealing with widely
known musical artists. This particular edition of "Q" is an
"Awards Special Edition" which is written below the "Q"
logo, telling the reader that this issue is important, limited edition, and a
one off version of "Q". Overall the logo is easily identifiable and
straightforward, and is consistent throughout every magazine cover.
Moving onto the main image of the magazine front cover, it
is a medium shot of Ed Sheeran, a successful singer/song writer. He is pictured
looking up and to his left, towards a soft light which perhaps could signify
hope in the form of new song ideas, due to the nature of his profession. He is
holding a guitar which only covers about a quarter of the front cover, but
still manages to stand out due to its birch wood coloured body. This is a
clever way of specifically highlighting the guitar, as it plays a key role in
his songs, where Sheeran relies on and is known for the acoustic guitar
features. His right hand is placed very subtly on the lower bout of the guitar,
which could suggest his laid-back style of music which often exhibits a slow
tempo and tranquil mood.
